Dan Shine

Dan Shine leads Automotive News' coverage of auto lending and dealership finance-and-insurance operations. He also oversees coverage of the service, parts and collision departments at dealerships and independent repair facilities and used vehicle and wholesale auctions. Shine joined Automotive News in 2019 after 16 years as communications director at a global economic think tank based at the University of Michigan. Prior to that, he was a reporter and editor at the Detroit Free Press and a reporter at the Dallas Morning News. For the past 25 years, Shine also has been an adjunct professor of journalism at several Michigan universities. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University and a master's degree in strategic communication from Purdue University.
